Frankfurt's most traditional spring fair at the Ratsweg fairgrounds – 24 days with 35 rides
The Dippemess is the mother of all Frankfurt folk festivals. The name derives from the Frankfurt "Dippe" – an earthenware pot, as the fair was originally a pottery market. Today, the folk festival element primarily survives: twice a year (spring and autumn), the Festplatz am Ratsweg in Ostend transforms into a large funfair. The 2026 spring edition runs for 24 days from March 27th to April 19th – spanning Easter, with special opening hours on public holidays.
With around 35 rides, the Spring Dippemess is one of the largest spring funfairs in Germany. The major attractions for 2026 include the Alpina-Bahn as the roller coaster highlight, the Jules Verne Tower as a giant chain carousel, the Piraten-Fluss as a water ride, and a 45-meter Ferris wheel. Classics like dodgems, haunted houses, carousels, swings, and game stalls are also plentiful.
Among the notable programs for 2026 is Fahrt zur Hölle 2.0 – a haunted house with live actors, not just a standard funhouse effect – as well as the Theatre of Illusions with magician Daniel Bornhäuser. Both attractions stand out from the standard funfair offerings.
Around the rides, there are 38 food stalls, 18 candy stalls, and 25 game stalls, as well as 15 sales booths. Frankfurt classics dominate: Bethmännchen, Apfelwein (apple wine), Frankfurter sausages, Schmalzkuchen (lard cakes), gebrannte Mandeln (candied almonds), alongside currywurst, crêpes, and sweets.
Every Tuesday (3:00 PM–8:00 PM) features the Knirpse-Kirmes with discounted prices for children under 12 and face painting. On April 14th, 2026, mascots will make a special appearance with the Apfelwein-Bembel mascot "Bembli".
Parking at the fairgrounds is prohibited. Recommended transport includes the U-Bahn line U7, Tram line 12, and buses 38 and 103, which stop directly at the Eissporthalle/Festplatz and run until after midnight.
