GDR moped cult, blue-white exhaust clouds and Schwalbe romance on the Muldestausee
The Simson mopeds from Suhl in Thuringia were more than just a means of transport in the GDR — they were a lifestyle. Schwalbe, Star, Spatz, KR51 or the iconic S51: anyone who turned sixteen in Bitterfeld, Halle or Magdeburg in the early 1980s dreamed of the blue-white chattering of these two-strokes. More than three decades after the fall of the Wall, this has become a loyal scene that lovingly cares for its machines — and meets every year in Schlaitz on the Muldestausee.
The meeting takes place on the sports field in Schlaitz, a district of the municipality of Muldestausee in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. From 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., all imaginable Simson models rumble past: originally painted Schwalbes in GDR green, tuned S51s with sports exhausts, carefully restored KR51/2s — and surprising custom builds again and again. Anyone arriving on two wheels is warmly welcome.
In addition to the vehicle show, there are guided rides through the Goitzsche landscape, skill games, a small parts market, and of course bratwurst, beer, and live music. With a good atmosphere, the evening stretches into dusk — some tend to their memories around the campfire, others take one last lap around the sports field, with the typical blue-white exhaust cloud in tow.
Schlaitz is located in the heart of the Mulde region, just a few kilometers from the industrial heritage of Bitterfeld-Wolfen. The Simson Meeting fits this region like hardly any other event: honest GDR nostalgia, a love for technology, and a piece of lived memory culture — all without pathos, but with all the more cordiality. If you love Simson, you've come to the right place. If you don't yet, you might find your first enthusiasm here.
The 4th edition of the Simson Meeting will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, on the Schlaitz sports field. From 10 AM to 11 PM, the Simson scene from Saxony-Anhalt and surrounding states will gather for the biggest family celebration around the blue-white smoking two-strokes from Suhl. Planned are a vehicle show of all models, guided rides through the Goitzsche, a parts market, and an evening finale with live music.
Note: Specific bands and detailed program will be published shortly before the meeting on the event calendar page of the municipality of Muldestausee.
By car via the B100 or A9 (exit Bitterfeld). Schlaitz is about 10 km east of Bitterfeld-Wolfen on the banks of the Muldestausee. By train to Bitterfeld, then bus to Schlaitz or by taxi.
Saturday 10:00 AM–11:00 PM.
Usually free (small donation for the club fund welcome). Specific conditions for 2026 will be announced by the municipality of Muldestausee.
If you arrive with your own Simson, you should clean the carburetor beforehand and bring enough two-stroke oil — after all, there's no one on site who doesn't understand this.
