About Weihnachtsgans-Auguste-Markt
Weihnachtsgans-Auguste-Markt — edition 2026
On the three Advent days, Oranienburg's Schlossplatz transforms into a baroque Christmas market with fire pits, a petting zoo, children's workshops, and a winter forest. The striking castle as a backdrop, the scent of mulled wine, roasted almonds, and stick bread over an open fire, as well as the musical stage program shape the atmosphere.
Families will find a special Advent atmosphere with a petting zoo, bakery workshops, and the winter forest staging β a themed installation specially designed for the market, carrying the fairy-tale element of the event.

Advent Magic on Schlossplatz
The Weihnachtsgans-Auguste-Markt is the traditional Christmas market of the city of Oranienburg β one of the best-preserved baroque cities in the Oberhavel district, about 35 kilometers north of Berlin. The venue is the Schlossplatz directly in front of Oranienburg Castle, which dates back to the 17th century and today combines a castle museum, concert hall, and event venue.
A Literary Godmother
The name refers to the children's book "Die Weihnachtsgans Auguste" by Friedrich Wolf (1888β1953), which was published in 1946 and became a classic in Germany during Advent. Friedrich Wolf lived in Lehnitz, a district of Oranienburg, from 1945 until his death β the city thus honors one of its most prominent residents. Auguste's story β a goose intended as a Christmas roast but who becomes a family member β shapes the market's atmosphere with child-friendly warmth.

Oranienburg Castle
Oranienburg Castle was built in the 17th century based on Dutch models and is considered the oldest baroque castle in the Mark Brandenburg. Today it houses a museum with collections on the history of the Oranienburg dynasty and Brandenburg. During the Advent season, the castle also offers a supporting program for the Christmas market: guided tours, concerts, and special exhibitions.
