Ten days of Volksfest atmosphere in the Oberpfalz with "Hangover The Tower" and a grand fireworks display
The Weiden Spring Festival is one of the oldest continuously celebrated Volksfeste in the Oberpfalz. The organizer is the city of Weiden in der Oberpfalz, an independent city in northeastern Bavaria with around 43,000 inhabitants. The 88th edition in 2026 will again run for ten days – an exceptionally long festival format for a spring festival of this size. With around 200,000 visitors per season, the Spring Festival is one of the popular highlights of the northern Oberpfalz.
Festival host Sonny Boy Papert operates the large festival tent, which offers classic Volksfest atmosphere with 2,500 seats. The festival beer is supplied by Schlossbrauerei Naabeck – a Maß (liter) will cost approximately €11.80 in 2026. The Lower Bavarian dance bands Trachtenrocker (opening band), Highline, Grumis, and Bayernmän provide the atmosphere from Thursday to Sunday. Classic festival tent food: roast chicken, pork roast, snack platters, grilled fish on a stick, and – of course – hand bread with quark.
The festival grounds on Conrad-Röntgen-Straße host one of the largest amusement parks in the Oberpfalz. New for the 2026 edition is the "Hangover The Tower" – an 85-meter-high freefall tower, one of the tallest traveling rides in Germany. Established highlights include the haunted house Haunted Castle, the 45m high inversion ride XXL-Höhenrausch, the 38m high Ferris wheel Royal, and the traditional Weißbierkarussell (wheat beer carousel).
The Spring Festival opens on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with a parade at 7 PM through the city center to the festival grounds, followed by a ceremonial gun salute in front of the festival tent and the ceremonial tapping of the first beer keg around 7:30 PM by the city leadership. In the middle of the festival week – on Friday, May 8, 2026, starting at 9:30 PM – the grand fireworks display will take place over the festival grounds. A Family and Senior Day with reduced prices for drinks and rides is scheduled on a weekday during the festival week.
