About Warnemünder Woche

Every July, the Warnemünder Woche combines one of Germany's largest sailing regattas with a lively summer festival on the beach of the seaside resort of Rostock. Around 2,000 sailors from up to 30 nations compete in more than ten boat classes on the Mecklenburg Bay, while on land, dragon boat races, beach handball, sea shanty choir gatherings, and concerts fill the programme. After Kieler Woche and Travemünder Woche, it is the third-largest regatta event in the country – and a magnet for hundreds of thousands of visitors on the Baltic Sea.

Sailing Sport and Summer Festival Combined

The Warnemünder Woche is the major summer event of Rostock's Baltic Sea resort, Warnemünde. Since 1938, it has combined an international sailing regatta with a multi-day Volksfest (people's festival), making it one of the most traditional maritime festivals in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In 2026, it will take place as the 88th edition from July 4th to 12th.

One of Germany's Largest Regattas

On the waters of the Mecklenburg Bay off Warnemünde, around 2,000 sailors from up to 30 nations compete. The best are determined in more than ten boat classes over nine days. After Kieler Woche and Travemünder Woche, the Warnemünder Woche ranks among the three largest regatta events in Germany and is a firm fixture on the international sailing calendar.

Onshore Programme

Traditionally, the »Niege Ümgang«, a historical festival parade through the seaside resort, opens the Warnemünder Woche on land – at the same time, the sailors start their first races. The onshore programme is equally diverse: dragon boat races, the Beach Handball Days, Kubb and Lacrosse tournaments, a sea shanty choir gathering, as well as concerts in the Kurhausgarten and on the promenade. The event concludes with a grand fireworks display over the Baltic Sea.

Maritime Atmosphere at the Alter Strom

During the festival week, the wide beach, the seaside promenade, and the Alter Strom (Old Pier) transform into a continuous festival mile. Stalls selling fish rolls, regional specialities, and maritime arts and crafts line the paths; ships and traditional sailing vessels dock at the quay. Hundreds of thousands of guests from all over Germany and the Baltic Sea region visit Warnemünde during the festival week.

Getting There

Warnemünde, as a district of the Hanseatic city of Rostock, is excellently accessible within the city's independent district. The S-Bahn (suburban train) from Rostock runs directly to Warnemünde station, which is just a few steps from the Alter Strom and the beach.

Warnemünder Woche — edition 2026

The 88th Warnemünder Woche will take place from July 4th to 12th, 2026, in Rostock-Warnemünde. For nine days, it combines an international sailing regatta with around 2,000 participants with a maritime summer festival on the beach – opened by the traditional »Niege Ümgang« parade.

The 88th Warnemünder Woche runs from July 4th to 12th, 2026. On the Mecklenburg Bay, around 2,000 sailors compete in more than ten boat classes; on land, a diverse summer festival accompanies the regatta.
