Wine festival of the oldest wine-growing community in the Rheingau, directly on the Rhine riverbank
Walluf is the eastern gateway to the Rheingau and is considered the oldest documented wine-growing community in the region. The small community at the mouth of the Walluf river into the Rhine is located on the famous Rheingau Riesling Route, directly between the vineyards of Niederwalluf and the Rhine riverbank, with a view of the Wiesbaden and Mainz surroundings. It is precisely this combination of wine, river, and village community that the WallUFER Wein am Rhein festival celebrates.
The organizers speak of the "Wallufer TRIO: WINE – FESTIVAL – RHINE" – three elements that define the three-day format. On the Rhine meadow between La-Londe-Platz (the central event location of the municipality, named after its French partner town La Londe-les-Maures) and the Alten Bock, Walluf vintners present their wines. This is complemented by live music, dance, and singing, as well as food offerings from local clubs and restaurateurs.
The festival was re-established at its current Rhine meadow location after the municipality of Walluf modernized the format a few years ago. In 2026, it will be the fourth consecutive year at this site – the organizers refer to it as a "little tradition." Mayor Nikolaos Stavridis personally opens the festival on Thursday evening around 6:30 PM.
Despite the focus on wine, the festival is designed to be family-friendly: a small children's area with a carousel, bouncy castle, and play activities complements the wine stands. Families and day-trippers from the Rhine-Main area particularly come on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Walluf is located directly on the B42 federal highway and on the Wiesbaden–Rüdesheim S-Bahn line (S8). The Walluf S-Bahn station is a 5-minute walk from the Rhine meadow – ideal for arriving without a car. A cycle and hiking path also runs along the Rhine riverbank between Wiesbaden and Walluf.
The fourth consecutive edition at the current Rhine meadow location. Walluf vintners will be serving wine, complemented by live music from local bands with dance and singing performances. The exact band program will be published shortly before the date on the Facebook page and at walluf.de.
Admission is completely free. Wine tasting per glass typically costs €3–5, food dishes range from €5–12 depending on the stand. Carousel rides for children cost approx. €2 per ride.
