Rheingau Wine Festival in the Open Winemaker Courtyards of the Gothic Village
Kiedrich lies in the heart of the Rheingau between Eltville and Geisenheim and is considered one of the best-preserved Gothic villages in Germany. The landmark is the Parish Church of St. Valentin (1380–1420), which has been preserved in almost unchanged Gothic style and is known for its medieval choral tradition and original Gothic organ. Scharfenstein Castle above the village completes the medieval picture.
The Höfe-Fest works differently than a classic street wine festival in a square: visitors stroll through the village alleys and enter the courtyards of participating wineries — small, often historic inner courtyards where winemakers serve their wines directly from their own cellars. This allows you to experience wine, architecture, and village history as a cohesive ensemble.
Around ten Kiedrich wineries participate in the festival, including renowned Rheingau estates known for their Riesling vineyards Kiedricher Gräfenberg and Kiedricher Wasseros. Kiedrich is also integrated into the supra-regional Rheingau format "Kiedrich Wein & Genuss", with which Rheingau winemakers open their courtyards, gardens, and wine cellars in the second week of July.
The daily schedule is clear: Friday and Saturday from 5 PM the courtyards open, Sunday from 2 PM for a relaxed family afternoon. In addition to wine service, there are dishes from Rheingau cuisine, occasional live music in individual courtyards, and at Hajo's Irish Pub. The historic wine cellars of some houses open their doors as pop-up wine bars with a relaxed lounge atmosphere.
There is no classic admission fee — visitors pay for wine and food individually at each courtyard. It is common to use your own collection glass, which every winemaker accepts. This gives the festival a tour character: you can freely combine your stops and design the tour individually.
Fourth edition of the festival as part of the larger Rheingau format "Kiedrich Wein & Genuss". For four days, the winemakers' courtyards open up the Gothic village to visitors. The exact list of participating courtyards and the stage program will be published before the festival on kiedrich.de and in the flyer of the Verkehrs- und Gewerbeverein.
Admission to the festival is completely free. Wine tasting €3–5 per glass, food €5–12 depending on the stand. Collection glass can be used in each courtyard.
Thursday/Friday/Saturday from 5:00 PM each day, Sunday from 2:00 PM.
Admission to the festival grounds is completely free. Wine and food are paid for in the individual courtyards.
