Advent market on the 1st Advent weekend in the Hunsrück town
Emmelshausen, a town with around 4,700 inhabitants in the Rhein-Hunsrück district, has established itself as a central hub between Koblenz, the Rhine, and the Moselle. Direct access to the A 61 (Emmelshausen exit) makes the town easily accessible by car — the B 327 federal highway runs directly through the town.
The Christkindelmarkt is a traditional Advent market that opens the Hunsrück Advent season. Organized by the town of Emmelshausen in cooperation with local clubs, it is held on the 1st Advent weekend — a deliberate scheduling choice that avoids competing with larger markets in the region on the 2nd Advent (Kastellaun) or 3rd Advent (Rheinböllen).
The offerings include arts and crafts from the region (woodwork, ceramics, jewelry, felt), Advent decorations (wreaths, arrangements), regional food products, and of course, the obligatory festive gastronomy: mulled wine (Glühwein), children's punch, roast pork (Spießbraten), potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), bratwurst, gingerbread (Lebkuchen), and candied almonds. Clubs — fire department, sports, church communities, music association — operate their own stalls and contribute to the character of a true community festival.
Characteristic is the family atmosphere: not a mass market, but a manageable Advent space where locals meet and guests from the surrounding area are welcome. Musical accompaniment is provided by local choirs, the Emmelshausen Music Association (which celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2026), and school groups.
The 2026 Christkindelmarkt continues the proven concept: a compact Advent market with a family-friendly character, strong club participation, and musical accompaniment. The Hunsrück town uses the 1st Advent weekend to usher in the Advent season together.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: market stalls in the center, club catering, musical supporting program, visit from St. Nicholas or appearance of the Christ Child.
