Connecting with the Region
If you're planning a full day: market on the Adolphshöhe in the morning, lunch at one of Wallerfangen's inns, and in the afternoon, a hike in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park or a trip to Mettlach to the Villeroy & Boch World.
Stoneware as Wallerfangen's Heritage
The Wallerfangen Pottery Market is a one-day event held every July, recalling a significant chapter of Saarland's industrial history: the Wallerfangen Stoneware Factory, which shaped the town's landscape between 1789 and 1929. Its tableware can still be found today in attics and museum shelves — and once a year at the market on the Adolphshöhe.
What You'll Find There
The focus is on well-preserved tableware from the Wallerfangen manufactory and neighboring stoneware producers from the Saar-Lor-Lux region:
- Wall plates with historical motifs
- Washbasins and jugs
- Wall tiles from the 19th and early 20th centuries
- Collector's items from various production periods
Exhibitors mainly come from Saarland and the adjacent departments of Lorraine — ideal for discussions about provenance, marks, and the history of individual pieces.
The Adolphshöhe
The Adolphshöhe is a tree-lined square in the historic center of Wallerfangen — named after Adolph Villeroy, who managed the Wallerfangen stoneware factory in the early 19th century (yes, the same Villeroy whose descendants helped shape the Villeroy & Boch porcelain company in Mettlach). The location is therefore no coincidence, but a direct reference to local industrial history.
Wallerfangen in the Saarlouis District
Wallerfangen is located in the Saarlouis district, directly on the river Saar and just a few kilometers from the French border. The municipality is part of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park and is considered a Nature Park Village — ideal for a day trip with a market in the morning and a hike in the afternoon.
