About Waldkirmes Pfiffelbach

The Waldkirmes Pfiffelbach is a traditional summer fair event in the Pfiffelbach district of the municipality Ilmtal-Weinstraße (Weimarer Land district, Thuringia). The festival at the Waldbühne has been organized by the Pfiffelbacher Waldfestverein e.V. since 1991. The traditional motto «Hunger und Durst» (Hunger and Thirst) stands for a down-to-earth village festival with a church service, serenades, a dance evening, and a campfire atmosphere. 2026: May 22 to May 31 (Waldfest), July 25 (Waldkirmes Pfiffelbach).

Pfiffelbach in Weimarer Land

Pfiffelbach is a district of the municipality Ilmtal-Weinstraße in the Weimarer Land district. Nestled between Weimar to the south and the Saale-Unstrut wine region to the north, the village combines Thuringian village tradition with the nearby culture of the city of poets. The Waldbühne Pfiffelbach on the outskirts is an extraordinary open-air theatre in the forest — a stage, grandstand, and festival tent under old trees.

The Pfiffelbacher Waldfestverein

Founded in 1991, the Pfiffelbacher Waldfestverein e.V. is responsible for the maintenance of the Waldbühne and the organization of the annual festival events. The association is an important pillar of village community life — from cultural engagement (theatre, concerts) to its social function (a meeting place for all generations).

«Hunger und Durst» — The Festival Motto

The motto «Hunger und Durst» ironically and down-to-earth represents what makes up a traditional village fair: good food, regional drinks, exuberant conviviality. In the festival tent under the trees, bratwurst, Rostbrätel, Thuringian dumplings, and beer are served — the culinary identity of the region is laid on the table.

Church Service, Serenades, and Dance Evening

The festival weekend begins with the church service on Friday evening in the Pfiffelbach church. On Saturday morning, the villagers, accompanied by Detlef & Friends, will perform a serenade for a person in the village — an old custom-preserving tradition. On Saturday evening, the festival tent invites you to the big fair evening with dancing and music.

Waldfest and Waldkirmes — Two Dates a Year

The Pfiffelbacher Waldfestverein organizes two main events per year: the Waldfest at the end of May (2026: May 22–31) with several theatre performances and concerts, and the Waldkirmes at the end of July (2026: July 25) as a compact summer fair format. Both events attract regular guests from the Weimarer Land and neighboring districts.

Waldkirmes Pfiffelbach — edition 2026

The Waldkirmes Pfiffelbach in 2026 will take place on July 24 and 25 under the motto «Hunger und Durst». Friday, July 24, 6:00 PM: Church service in the church. Saturday, July 25, 9:00 AM: Serenade with Detlef & Friends, in the evening at 8:00 PM: Grand fair evening «Hunger und Durst» at the fire station. Organizer: Pfiffelbacher Waldfestverein e.V.

The 2026 Waldkirmes continues the traditional program points. Friday, July 24: Kick-off with the church service in the Pfiffelbach church at 6:00 PM — a tradition that embeds the festival in the village calendar. Saturday, July 25: Serenade with Detlef & Friends at 9:00 AM — the music group will parade through the village and perform a serenade for a selected member. In the evening from 8:00 PM: Grand fair evening «Hunger und Durst» at the fire station with the band «Hunger & Durst».

Before that: from May 22 to May 31, 2026, the association's Waldfest will take place at the Waldbühne — with theatre performances and concerts as the second major association event.
