Market Tradition on the Chiemsee

The Dorfmarkt Übersee is one of the most popular small farmers' markets in the Chiemgau. Organized by the municipality of Übersee am Chiemsee, it takes place from spring to autumn every third Saturday of the month on the "Beste Wiese" in the middle of the village center. Übersee is located on the southern shore of the Chiemsee, in the district of Traunstein, Bavaria – directly between the Chiemsee and the Chiemgau Alps.

What's Available

The market offers a concentrated selection of regional products:

• Honey from beekeepers from the Achental and Chiemgau regions
• Jams, pickled vegetables, and organic vegetables from local farms
• Smoked char and whitefish from the Chiemsee
• Pottery in the traditional Chiemgau style
• Wood crafts – cutting boards, bowls, turned items
• Coffee and homemade cake from the local traditional costume association
• Sausage stand with bratwurst and Leberkäs
• Live music – often the Feldwieser Alphornbläser or regional folk music groups

Atmosphere

The Dorfmarkt is less of a tourist show market and more of a meeting place for Übersee residents and summer visitors: people meet for coffee, listen to the alphorn sounds, and buy fresh food with short supply chains. Unlike the larger weekly markets in Prien or Traunstein, the Dorfmarkt Übersee retains the character of a rural neighborhood market.

Übersee am Chiemsee

Übersee is a municipality with around 4,600 inhabitants on the southern shore of the Chiemsee. The district of Feldwies, known for its association with the painter Wilhelm Leibl, is considered one of the most beautiful spots on the "Bavarian Sea." The Dorfmarkt takes place between May and October; in summer, it can be combined with swimming at Übersee beach, hiking in the Chiemgau Alps, or a boat trip to Herreninsel.
