Anniversary weekend of the Music Association on the Chiemsee
The Music Association Übersee-Feldwies celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026 — an occasion that goes far beyond normal club life. The municipality of Übersee, picturesquely located at the southeastern tip of the Chiemsee, is experiencing one of its biggest cultural events of the year. The festival weekend combines tradition with anniversary splendor and brings together the best of the Alpine brass music scene.
On Sunday, July 5th, 2026, the founding festival begins with a youth band meeting in the morning. Young musicians from the region will perform — a commitment to nurturing young talent, which the association has cultivated over generations. The day culminates in the evening with the anniversary celebration in the festival tent: a ceremonial speech, musical contributions from the house band, and, most importantly, the symbolic handover of the conductor's baton from Thomas Lindlacher to his designated successor Lothar Beyschlag. A generational change in ceremonial form.
On Monday, July 6th, the traditional brass music day follows with guest bands from across the Alpine region. Bands from Bavaria, Austria, Italy (South Tyrol), and Switzerland will meet, perform in the festival tent, and march through the town in a star parade. The organizers are drawing on the experience of the 55th District Music Festival, which was held in Übersee in 2025 with a similar format.
The festival week includes further highlights: On July 9th, Gerhard Polt & the Wellbrüders will perform a humorous cabaret evening — Bavarian comedy in its purest form. On July 10th, a concert by the Munich Philharmonic Brass Ensemble, hosted by Traudi Siferlinger, will take place — a classical highlight of the highest caliber. The festival tent can accommodate up to 3,000 guests.
Übersee is located on the southeastern shore of the Chiemsee in the Traunstein district. The municipality, with around 5,000 inhabitants and its district of Feldwies, is a popular excursion destination and starting point for boat trips on the Chiemsee. The Music Association Übersee-Feldwies is one of the oldest and most active bands in the region and shapes the cultural life of the town.
With its 50th anniversary, the Music Association Übersee-Feldwies reaches a milestone. The central weekend (July 5th and 6th) provides the festive framework to honor the association's history and mark the transition into a new musical era. Thomas Lindlacher, long-time conductor, will ceremonially hand over the baton to Lothar Beyschlag.
The festival week until July 14th is a concentrated tour de force of Alpine musical culture. With Gerhard Polt and the concert broadcast of the Munich Philharmonic Brass Ensemble, the association combines Bavarian folk culture, cabaret tradition, and top-class classical music in a single festival week.
