Open-air music festival on the festival meadow in Weimarer Land
Apolda is a small town in the Weimarer Land district of Thuringia, known for its long tradition as a city of bell founding and knitwear manufacturing. Today, Apolda is part of the Weimar–Jena cultural axis and, with the Apoldaer Musiksommer, hosts one of the most important summer festivals in the region.
The venue is the festival meadow in Herressener Promenade — a traditional open-air festival site on the edge of the city center, which becomes an open-air festival venue every year as part of the Park and Heimatfest. The stage is set up in a semi-circle, and the audience sits or stands on the meadow — an intimate open-air atmosphere that distinguishes the festival from the mass format of other large open-airs.
The 8th edition in 2026 runs from June 5th to 12th with a total of four concert evenings. It opens on Friday, June 5th with VERSENGOLD, one of the most successful German-language medieval folk bands, in a double feature with the Irish-Celtic folk rockers Fiddler's Green. On Saturday, June 6th, Truck Stop, Germany's most successful country band, will perform with support from Rodeo. Sunday, June 7th: ABBA Tribute in Symphony with Swede Sensation. Friday, June 12th, the festival concludes with DJ Ötzi & Band and Eva's Garten.
Single concert tickets range from €29.90 to €49.90, VERSENGOLD at €39.90. A combo ticket for Saturday and Sunday (seated) costs €74.90. Tickets are available through the Apolda Tourist Information, affiliated ticket agencies, and the Ticketshop Thüringen.
The festival is embedded in the Apolda Park and Heimatfest — carousels, gastronomic stands, and a family program complement the concert evenings. Those staying overnight in Apolda will find small hotels and guesthouses, plus connections to the classical city of Weimar (15 km away) for day trips.
The 2026 festival continues the proven format: four concert evenings spread over a long weekend and an extended weekend a week later. The range spans from medieval folk and country to ABBA tributes and DJ Ötzi hits.
VERSENGOLD opens the festival on June 5th — the band around frontman Malte Hoyer has established itself in the German-speaking folk-rock scene with albums like «Funkenflug» and «Im Namen des Folkes». Special Guest Fiddler's Green adds the Irish component. On June 6th, Truck Stop takes over — Germany's most successful country band, active since the 1970s. Sunday, June 7th: the Stockholm Strings Orchestra and Swede Sensation present «ABBA Tribute in Symphony» — ABBA songs in orchestral arrangements. The finale on June 12th features DJ Ötzi with his Schlager hits and Eva's Garten as support.
