Four-day Schützenfest of the Alte Allgemeine in the district town of Altenkirchen
The Schützenfest der 1. Kompanie Altenkirchen, traditionally called "Alte Allgemeine," is one of the oldest and largest shooting festivals in the Altenkirchen district. The organizer is the 1st Company of the Allgemeine Bürgergesellschaft, which is well-known and deeply rooted in the town's society as the "Alte Allgemeine."
The Schützenfest traditionally runs from Thursday to Sunday (in the 2026 version, from Thursday, June 4, to Sunday, June 7). This makes it one of the longest shooting festivals in the region. Each day has its own character: a festive start, a grand dance evening, the king's shooting and coronation, and a concluding company day with a parade and procession.
The festival marquee with a stage, dance floor, and bars, as well as the extensive festival grounds on Bogenstraße, form the heart of the event. A small amusement park with carousels, shooting galleries, candy stalls, and snack stands is set up in the outdoor area. Several thousand guests are expected over the festival days.
The highlight is the king's shooting, at the end of which the new monarchs of the 1st Company are determined. The festive coronation in the marquee is one of the emotional highlights – a moment of great significance for the town's shooting and club traditions.
Beyond being purely a club festival, the Schützenfest of the Alte Allgemeine has taken on the character of a town festival over the years. Non-members also visit the marquee for dance evenings, families come with children to the carousels, and the grand parade transforms the town center into a black-and-yellow promenade on Sunday.
The 2026 Schützenfest of the 1st Company will take place from Thursday, June 4, to Sunday, June 7. The venue is the festival grounds on Bogenstraße in Altenkirchen.
The program and bands will be published by the 1st Company on alte-allgemeine.de and via posters in the town center.
The detailed 2026 program will be communicated on the 1st Company's website. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
