Traditional forest festival at the covered forest stage with rock night and Pentecost program
The Waldfest is a typical festival format in the Thuringian Forest and its foothills: a summer festival in the middle of nature, often at a clearing with a permanently installed stage, organized by a village association. Pfiffelbach has perfected this concept — the Waldbühne Pfiffelbach is a covered open-air stage in the forest, with permanent infrastructure for electricity, water, catering, and refreshments. The roof allows the festival to operate even in rainy weather — a significant advantage over purely open-air festivals. The Pfiffelbacher Waldfestverein e.V. maintains the grounds year-round and organizes the main festival at Pentecost.
The 2026 program extends over ten days — an ambitious expansion of the classic three-day Pentecost festival. Friday, May 22nd, from 10:00 PM: Kick-off with "Spring Beats" — electronic music with Marcelli, Housejunkee, Greb Levah, and Parkinzon & Siillaa. This is a modern element that makes the Waldfest attractive to a younger audience as well. Pentecost Sunday, May 24th: Festive Pentecost service starting at 9:30 AM (tradition!), followed by Frühschoppen with live music and a colorful family day. Pentecost Sunday evening: the famous Rock Night with Rockpirat, a regional rock cover band that has been providing the music for the Pentecost festival in Pfiffelbach for years.
During the day, the Waldfest is a classic family festival: carousels for children, bouncy castle, petting zoo elements, games, and activities, catering by the association with bratwurst, fries, cakes, and coffee. The colorful family day on Pentecost Sunday is the clear highlight for families — from the Frühschoppen guests in the morning to young parents in the afternoon. In the evening, the atmosphere changes: families leave, and younger Pfiffelbach residents and visitors arrive for the rock night. The concept works: the Waldfest brings different generations together in one place.
Pfiffelbach is a district of the municipality of Ilmtal-Weinstraße in the Weimarer Land district in the state of Thuringia. The municipality was formed in 2019 from the merger of several districts between Apolda and Weimar and uses the name "Ilmtal-Weinstraße" as tourist branding — the region between the Ilm and Saale rivers is indeed a small wine-growing area, with connections to the neighboring Saale-Unstrut region. Pfiffelbach itself is a small village, but it is known far beyond its borders thanks to the Waldbühne and the Pentecost festival. A visit can be combined with Weimar (UNESCO World Heritage Site, 15 km) or Apolda (Glockenmuseum, 5 km).
From May 22nd to 31st, 2026, the Waldbühne Pfiffelbach transforms into a ten-day festival grounds. Pentecost week is the highlight with the Pentecost service, family day, Frühschoppen, and the traditional rock night. The covered festival area guarantees the festival can take place regardless of the weather.
