Volksfest Tradition in the Bavarian Forest
The Waldkirchen Volksfest is one of the fixed highlights of the summer in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau. The venue is the New Festival Grounds at Holzfeldstraße 3, in close proximity to the LOBO discotheque parking lot. For six days – from Friday to Wednesday – the Goldener Steig town celebrates its grand Volksfest with a festival tent, amusement rides, and a rich supporting program.
Beer Tapping, Parade, and Festival Tent
The traditional opening takes place on Friday with the mayor's beer tapping ceremony and the Waldkirchen town band. Before that, a parade moves from the market square to the festival grounds – traditional costumes, clubs, and music groups characterize the scene. The festival tent buzzes with atmosphere throughout the event with brass music, Bavarian Schlager, and rock acts; during the day, amusement operators invite families to linger.

Regional Identity
Waldkirchen is located on the historic "Goldener Steig" – the medieval salt trade route from Passau to Prachatice – in the middle of the Bavarian Forest. The Volksfest reflects the identity of this border region between Lower Bavaria, the Czech Republic, and Upper Austria: Bavarian festival culture meets the friendly tone of the Bayerwald and shared celebrations within the club community. Guests flock from the entire Freyung-Grafenau district; the Volksfest is the region's meeting point.
