Traditional fair in honour of St. Lawrence with Ruwertal Riesling, live music, and fairground fun
The Ruwertal is one of the smallest and finest wine-growing regions of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer appellation. The cooler locations along the Ruwer river produce lean, mineralic Rieslings that enjoy high international reputation. Waldrach is located in the heart of the valley and is home to key players of Ruwer-Riesling e.V., the vintners' association that also coordinates the calendar of Ruwertal wine events.
St. Lawrence (name day August 10th) is the patron saint of the parish of Waldrach. The Laurentiuskirmes therefore has a religious and traditional origin — for centuries, it was also the most important secular festival in the local calendar. Today, it is a Volksfest (popular festival) with a celebratory church service, a parade, carousels, food stalls, and live music, clearly aimed at families.
The special feature is the close connection with wine: Waldrach vintners set up stalls where they serve Ruwer Riesling and other wines. Joint wine tastings — smaller, guided formats throughout the weekend — provide insight into the style of the Ruwertal wineries. This distinguishes the Laurentiuskirmes from classic funfair-style Kirmes events.
In 2026, the fair extends from Friday, August 7th, to Monday, August 10th. Opening with a celebratory church service, evening concert programme, family Sunday with a morning pint and parade, and winding down on Monday evening — a proven choreography that makes Waldrach the centre of the Ruwertal event season in high summer.
The Laurentiuskirmes 2026 is jointly supported by the parish, the local community of Waldrach, and Ruwer-Riesling e.V. The format is rooted in a long local tradition; in planning the programme, the organisers strive for a balance between a popular festival atmosphere, classic fairground attractions, and a focus on wine.
Specific band line-ups, timings, and participating wineries will be published on the event pages of Ruwer-Riesling e.V.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
