Anniversary family festival at Schlossplatz with the opening of the "Göppingen spielt!" action week
The city of Göppingen (around 58,000 inhabitants, district capital of the Göppingen district) lies at the foot of the Hohenstaufen — the ancestral mountain of the famous Hohenstaufen imperial dynasty (Frederick Barbarossa). The Staufer city's history shapes its cultural identity; Göppingen Castle (built 1559/1568 as a moated castle, now a concert and event venue in the inner courtyard) is the urban highlight. The Schlossplatz in front of it and Schlossstraße are the central festival areas of the city.
The Schloss-Straßen-Fest was launched in 2017 — the 10th edition in 2026 marks a small anniversary (ten years of family festival). The organizer is Stadtmarketing Göppingen, which plans the festival annually to kick off the summer holiday week "Göppingen spielt!". In 2026, the festival will take place on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. — an extended summer Sunday in the heart of the old town.
The Schloss-Straßen-Fest is explicitly designed as the kick-off for the "Göppingen spielt!" action week — a summer holiday initiative organized by Stadtmarketing, which will fill the city center with great play activities in the following week (August 3–8, 2026): giant slides, water games, craft stations, sports workshops, science stations, cultural hands-on activities. The Schloss-Straßen-Fest on August 2 brings together the participants, presents the program, and invites families to play.
The festival is spread across three spatial hubs:

The date in August is by design: right in the middle of the Baden-Württemberg summer holidays, before the last part of the break. The festival and the subsequent "Göppingen spielt!" action week explicitly target families staying in the city — and aim to offer them a varied summer program. This is a deliberate city initiative against the "summer slump" in urban programming.
The Schloss-Straßen-Fest celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026. As expected, Stadtmarketing is planning an expanded program — looking back at ten years of family festival and a special program to kick off the "Göppingen spielt!" action week.
The festival runs on August 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Schlossplatz, Schlossstraße, and Museum im Storchen will be activated. The exact program will be announced by Stadtmarketing Göppingen in early summer 2026.
Free admission to all event points and the Museum im Storchen. Food and drinks at the club stands at festival prices.
You can reach Göppingen by train (Filsbahn Stuttgart–Ulm, stop Göppingen Hbf) — about an 8-minute walk from the main station to the Schlossplatz city center. By car via the A 8 (Göppingen exit) or the B 10 (Stuttgart–Ulm).
