City Festival and Shopping Festival in One
For almost two decades, the Göppinger Frühling has been the traditional spring opening in the district capital of Göppingen (District of Göppingen) at the foot of the Swabian Jura. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 20th edition – a joint project of retailers, gastronomy, and the city under the umbrella of the city marketing association Göppinger City e.V.
What Makes the Göppinger Frühling Special
Instead of a classic festival ground Volksfest (public festival), the Göppinger Frühling focuses on city center activation: shop windows are decorated for spring, cafés move tables onto the sidewalk, and retailers present their spring collections. Over two weeks, various special promotions, themed days, and live program points take place in the city center.
Sunday Shopping – The Highlight
The festival's highlight is traditionally the Sunday shopping. In the 2026 edition, this falls on March 29, 2026. On this day, Göppingen's city center retailers open their doors, restaurants and cafés are open all day, and bands, walking acts, and artists perform in the pedestrian zones. For families, there are children's and interactive activities around the Marktplatz.
Nestled in the Pre-Alpine Landscape
Göppingen is located at the foot of the Swabian Jura – the three imperial mountains Hohenstaufen, Rechberg, and Stuifen shape the landscape. Those who wish to combine their city visit with an excursion can follow it with a short hike up the Hohenstaufen, a visit to the Hohenstaufen Museum, or a trip into the Fils valley to Bad Boll or Kuchen.
Tradition Since 2007
The Göppinger Frühling was launched in 2007 and has since established itself as a central event format in Göppingen city. The 20th edition in 2026 marks a small anniversary – with additional program points and a special emphasis on the Sunday shopping.
