Göppinger Stadtfest — the city center festival at the foot of the Hohenstaufen

For 41 editions, the Göppinger Stadtfest has been the annual city center highlight in the Hohenstaufen city at the foot of the mountain of the same name (Göppingen district, Baden-Württemberg). The organizer is the Interessengemeinschaft Göppinger Stadtfest e.V. together with the City of Göppingen, regional clubs, restaurateurs, and retailers. For three days, Hauptstraße, Pflegstraße, Schlossstraße, and Burgstraße between the train station and the castle will be transformed into a large festival mile with five stages and dozens of stands.

Five stages — five atmospheres

The Stadtfest simultaneously occupies several squares, creating different atmospheres: the central EVF-Bühne am Marktplatz (main stage with pop, rock, and Schlager), the Spitalplatz, the Schloßplatz directly in front of the Renaissance castle, the Helmle area, and the Treff Square. Dance groups, show formations, music clubs, and bands from the region alternate here — from folklore and folk dance to jazz and big band to rock and pop.

Program and Schedule

The Stadtfest 2026 opens on Friday, September 11, at 6:30 PM with the keg tapping ceremony on the EVF stage and runs until Sunday evening, September 14. Saturday and Sunday are dedicated to the family: modern and folkloric dance performances, interactive activities, children's programs, and culinary delights from the Göppingen region at several stands — from Maultaschen and Käsespätzle to Bratwurst, pizza, Turkish and Asian specialties, and sweet classics.

Göppingen and the Filstal

With around 60,000 inhabitants, Göppingen is the capital of the Göppingen district and is located in the Württemberg Filstal valley, at the foot of the Swabian Jura and the Hohenstaufen. The city combines a long history of craftsmanship and industry (Märklin, Boehringer, WMF) with a vibrant city center culture. The Stadtfest is one of several city center festivals in Göppingen (Maientag in spring, "Göppingen spielt", Schloss-Straßenfest) and the biggest crowd-puller of late summer.

Atmosphere

A Göppingen specialty is the mix of a district festival character and an urban city festival format: The city center restaurateurs open their outdoor areas, the clubs serve food at the stands, and professionals and amateurs from the region alternate on the stages. Free admission — the Stadtfest is financed entirely by food and beverage sales.
