Grand Salvator-Kirmes from August 7 to 10, 2026, on Hahnplatz in front of the Salvator Basilica – market, rides, and spectacular closing fireworks in Prüm.
The Prüm Salvator-Kirmes is the central summer event of the Eifel town of Prüm and is one of the most famous traditional fairs in the region. It takes place annually around the second Sunday in August – in 2026 from August 7 to 10. The name derives from Saint Salvator (Christ the Redeemer), to whom the famous Salvator Basilica of Prüm is dedicated.
The venue for the fair is Hahnplatz in front of the Salvator Basilica – one of the most beautiful squares in the Eifel. The Salvator Basilica dates back to the Carolingian era and the former Prüm Abbey and is the town's landmark. The fair in front of this impressive backdrop has its own character, combining secular entertainment with the town's spiritual and historical heritage.
The fair opens on Friday evening at 5:00 PM by the mayor with the traditional tapping of the first keg. This marks the start of the four-day festival program with rides, market stalls, food and drink, and music. The second Sunday in August is the highlight, drawing a large crowd from the entire region.
Parallel to the fair, an antique and flea market takes place in the multi-purpose hall – Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Here, collectors, enthusiasts, and bargain hunters can find antiques, bric-a-brac, collectibles, and vintage furniture.
The grand closing fireworks on the final evening of the festival form the highlight and conclusion. The fireworks display against the backdrop of the Salvator Basilica are known far beyond the town and attract additional visitors. The fair is thus also a visual experience.
As one of the largest traditional markets in the Eifel, the Salvator-Kirmes attracts around 5,000 visitors. The combination of customs, fairground fun, market, and the festive closing fireworks makes the event an indispensable summer date in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm.
The 2026 Salvator-Kirmes continues the town of Prüm's traditional major summer event. With four days of festivities, a market, fairground attractions, and closing fireworks, it offers the full spectrum of a significant Eifel summer festival.
