Children's Carnival Parade of KG Schloßgeister 77 e.V. through the Willich district of Neersen
Neersen is one of four districts of the Lower Rhine town of Willich in the Viersen district. Known for its historic castle, the village lives the Rhenish carnival with an intensity that makes many larger cities pale in comparison. On Rosenmontag, the KG Schloßgeister 77 e.V. organises a full-fledged carnival parade aimed at families and children, clearly understanding itself as a "Children's Rosenmontagszug".
The assembly of floats and walking groups takes place from the early afternoon around Minoritenplatz. At 2:11 PM, the parade sets off – the traditional carnival time that traditionally heralds festivities in the Rhineland. The exact parade route leads through almost every street in Neersen: Hauptstraße, Virmondstraße, Kastanienweg, Weidenweg, Erlenweg, Bengdbruchstraße, Neustraße, Brockelsweg, Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, Kirchhofstraße, Rothweg, and Eichenweg, before the procession returns to Minoritenplatz.
The Neersen Rosenmontagszug is consciously aimed at families with small children: no alcohol excess, but Kamelle, music, and floats that you can admire in peace. After the parade, carnival-goers head to the Wahlefeldsaal, where KG Schloßgeister invites them to an after-parade party. Club members, residents, and guests mingle – there are no strangers in the castle carnival.
If you are in the region anyway, it's worth arriving the Sunday before: In the Willich district of Anrath, the traditional Tulpensonntagszug (Tulip Sunday Parade) takes place on Tulip Sunday (February 15, 2026) – a second major carnival parade in the town. Together with the Lärmzug (noise parade), the three parades form the Willich Carnival Triptych.
KG Schloßgeister 77 e.V. was founded in 1977 and is now one of the established players in the carnival scene on the Lower Rhine. In addition to the Rosenmontagszug, the club also organises the session motto, meetings, and the Prince and Princess couple. Current information and registrations for floats or walking groups are available via the club's website.
The 2026 carnival parade sets off at 2:11 PM. Assembly from noon around Minoritenplatz, followed by a family party in the Wahlefeldsaal. Registrations for floats and walking groups are handled by KG Schloßgeister 77 e.V.
Already on Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Tulpensonntagszug takes place in the neighbouring district of Anrath. Both parades together form the Willich Carnival weekend.
