Marienwerder is a municipality in the Barnim district, located east of Berlin on the edge of the Barnim Nature Park. When the lights at the Marienwerder Village Church are lit on the first Sunday of Advent (2026: November 29), the Advent season begins for the region. The annual Christmas market around the church is one of the most charming small Advent festivals in southern Barnim — from 3 PM to 7 PM, the square in front of the church fills with families, choir singers, and neighbors from the surrounding villages.

Four Choirs, One Orchestra

The musical program is one of the hallmarks of the Marienwerder Christmas market. Four ensembles will perform on stage on November 29, 2026: the children's choir "CantiFroh", the women's choir "Cantilena", the men's choir "Frohsinn", and the Original Wandlitzer Blasmusikanten. The festive conclusion, starting at 6 PM, will be provided by the Brandenburgisches Konzertorchester in the village church — a high-quality concert in a small, intimate church space.

Family Program

For the children, there are pony rides and a visit from St. Nicholas — classic elements of a Brandenburg village Christmas market that will bring smiles to their faces. In the heated tent, the kindergarten's support association serves coffee & cake, while outside there are grilled items, drinks, mulled wine, sweets, and potatoes with quark. Craft stalls and honey vendors complement the offerings, and fire pits create a festive atmosphere.

The Marienwerder Christmas market is a typical example of the vibrant village culture in Brandenburg's Barnim region. Unlike the large Christmas markets in Berlin or Potsdam, the focus here is on community — driven by the commitment of associations, the church, the kindergarten, and the residents.
