Three Days of Wine and Live Music in the UNESCO Monastery Courtyard Maulbronn
The WeinSommer Maulbronn is one of the most atmospheric wine festivals in Baden-Württemberg. The venue is the monastery courtyard of Maulbronn Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993 and considered the best-preserved medieval monastery complex north of the Alps. Right there, between the cloister buildings, the well chapel, and the striking Paradise vestibule, vintners from the Enzkreis district and the surrounding region serve their finest wines.
Maulbronn is located in the heart of the Württemberg Stromberg wine-growing region, one of the most traditional wine regions in Southern Germany. At WeinSommer, vintners from the Stromberg-Zabergäu district winery, private wineries from Knittlingen, Mühlacker, and Sternenfels, as well as smaller family businesses from the immediate vicinity will be represented. In your glass, you can expect primarily Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, and Spätburgunder, along with dry Rieslings and off-dry Müller-Thurgau.
The culinary offerings feature classic Swabian accompaniments: Maultaschen, Käsespätzle, Zwiebelrostbraten, and Flammkuchen are served alongside Mediterranean-inspired tapas and pasta variations. Vegetarian and vegan options are, of course, part of the selection.
Regional bands perform live on all three evenings. The selection ranges from handmade acoustic pop and jazz combos to Swabian dialect music. The monastery walls provide exceptional acoustics — anyone who has enjoyed a glass of wine here on a mild summer night will return the following year.
Maulbronn is not just a random venue: the backdrop attracts thousands of visitors annually from the entire Enzkreis district, as well as from Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, and Pforzheim. Those who arrive early can visit the monastery before the festival begins or take a short hike in the surrounding Stromberg hills.
The 2026 edition spans three days and utilizes the entire monastery courtyard as the event space. The stalls of participating vintners are lined up along the cloister walls, several bistro islands provide guests with hot and cold dishes, and a stage in the center of the courtyard hosts the music program.
Opening on Friday evening with the ceremonial tapping of the first barrel, a focus on live music on Saturday evening, and a family day with a morning pint on Sunday.
The full musical lineup will be published on maulbronn.de in the summer of 2026.
