Tip
Spectators will also have a great time: enjoy a morning pint by the Edersee, watch the triathlon along the Ederseerandstraße, and afterwards visit Waldeck Castle for panoramic views of the entire valley.
Triathlon on the Reservoir
The Edersee, with around 11.5 km², is one of Germany's largest reservoirs and is located in the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage beech forest. Here, with the water on one side and the forest slopes on the other, one of Hesse's most beautiful triathlons has been held since 1986: the Waldecker Edersee-Triathlon.
41st Edition 2026
2026 marks the 41st edition. The organizer is TSV 08 Hemfurth-Edersee, an experienced team that organizes the event independently. Registration began as early as January 2026 — and by May, the event was completely sold out, an indication of the triathlon's appeal within the North Hessian sports community.
Two Distances
Classically, two competitions — the Sprint distance (750 m swimming / 20 km cycling / 5 km running) and the Olympic distance (1,500 m swimming / 40 km cycling / 10 km running). Both start simultaneously at 10:05 AM.
Town Center Turnaround: Waldeck as a Sports Arena
A special feature: the running course leads through the town center of Waldeck, the historic mountain town with Waldeck Castle high above the Edersee. The town transforms into a true sports arena for a day, with residents lining the routes, clapping and cheering.
Hub of Triathlon Sport
According to the organizer, the Waldecker Land has "developed into a hub of triathlon sport." The lake is clean, the courses are challenging but fair, and the atmosphere is familial. A classic that, despite its growing popularity, has not lost its local character.
