Tradition for over three decades
What began as a small summer program for the spa town has developed over 30 years into a fixture on the cultural calendar of the Unterallgäu region. The Sommerfrische is not a classic festival with a concentrated weekend, but a curated concert series that spans almost three months – from the end of June to the end of September. This gives the event its typical character: no festival hustle and bustle, but a gentle summer rhythm, fitting for the spirit of a Kneipp spa town.
Concerts, Cabaret, Theatre — all within walking distance
The programming of the Sommerfrische is deliberately broad: Irish Folk, Blues-Rock, Bluegrass, a cappella, cabaret, and theatre. The venues are the Kursaal in the Haus des Gastes (acoustically ideal for concerts), the Postsaal (smaller setting for intimate performances and cabaret), and the Kurpark with the traditional summer festival at the beginning of July. An art exhibition in the Haus des Gastes accompanies the summer program.
Bad Grönenbach — Sebastian Kneipp Country
Bad Grönenbach is located in the Unterallgäu district of Bavaria and has held the state-recognized Kneipp spa town status since 2007. While Sebastian Kneipp did not personally practice here, the water and nature cure methods still shape the character of the town today – with its spa gardens, Kneipp facilities, wading pools, and water-treading stations in the surrounding forest. The Sommerfrische is the cultural complement to this health tourism profile.
A curated series, not a mass event
The Sommerfrische benefits from its scale: halls with 200 to 400 seats, renowned artists from Bavaria and Southern Germany, personal contact with the audience and the organizing team. Advance ticket sales for the 2026 season began on January 7th – tickets for some dates historically sell out quickly.
Summer Refreshment Bad Grönenbach — edition 2026
The 2026 program for the Sommerfrische is deliberately packed. Eight official dates plus the opening of the art exhibition on July 10th at the Haus des Gastes are spread over three months. The venues remain the Kursaal in the Haus des Gastes (concerts), the Postsaal (cabaret and a cappella), and the Kurpark for the summer festival on July 5th.
Advance ticket sales started on January 7, 2026, at the Kur- und Gästeinformation at Marktplatz 5. Insider tip: Dates with Claus von Wagner, the Ludwig Seuss Band, and Bunch of Grass are historically sold out quickly – early booking is recommended.
