360 Years of Tradition
The Wahlstedt Marksmen Festival is hosted by one of Schleswig-Holstein's oldest marksmen's clubs — the Wahlstedter Schützengilde e.V., which can be traced back to the year 1665. More than three centuries of club tradition make the Marksmen Festival an identity-defining event for the town — even though Wahlstedt itself only received town rights in 1969.
2026 Programme
The 2026 edition will be celebrated on the weekend of June 20th and 21st. The venue is the Schützenplatz at Scharnhorststraße 49:
- Saturday, June 20, 2026, 1:00 PM: Children's Bird Shooting in AquaFUN Wahlstedt (swimming pool area)
- Saturday, June 20, 2026, 2:00 PM: Festival begins on the Schützenplatz
- Saturday/Sunday, June 20/21, 2026: King's Shoot, competitions, social programme
What to Expect at a North German Marksmen Festival
Even though the Marksmen's Guild is primarily a sports club (tradition of competitive shooting), the Marksmen Festival in Schleswig-Holstein is above all a club and town festival. What awaits you:
- King's Shoot of the Marksmen's Guild — determination of the new Queen/King
- Marksmen's competitions in various classes
- Club catering with bratwurst, fries, beer, cake
- Social gathering between club members, board, and townspeople
- For children: the Children's Bird Shooting as a parallel tradition — a playful form of marksmanship, often with wooden bows and arrows or soft foam bird targets
Wahlstedt and the Segeberg District
The town of Wahlstedt in the Segeberg district, state of Schleswig-Holstein, is a younger town — it was founded in 1925 as an ammunition factory and developed into a small industrial town after World War II, with just under 9,000 inhabitants today. Despite this young history, it has a club branch, the Marksmen's Guild, which has existed uninterrupted since 1665 and is far older than the town itself — the guild was founded in the surrounding villages and has grown together with the town.
Marksmen Festival Wahlstedt — edition 2026
The 2026 edition continues the unbroken tradition since 1665 — with the two-day event on June 20th and 21st. The venue is, as always, the Schützenplatz at Scharnhorststraße 49, as well as the adjacent AquaFUN Wahlstedt for the Children's Bird Shooting.
The focus is on the King's Shoot of the Marksmen's Guild, during which the new Queen/King will be crowned. In addition, there will be open marksmen's competitions, social club catering, and the parallel Children's Bird Shooting, which introduces the youngest generation to the marksmen's tradition.

By car: A21 exit Bad Segeberg, then towards Wahlstedt. By train: Bad Segeberg main station, then bus or taxi. Parking at the Schützenplatz and in the surrounding area.
