About Heavysaurus & Boss Hoss Open Air

The open-air double bill at Freizeitbad Azur in Kaiserslautern brings two very different acts to the stage on May 15th and 16th, 2026: Heavysaurus, the Finnish heavy metal band for children in dinosaur costumes with child-friendly heavy music, and The Boss Hoss, the German country-rock band who interpret current pop and rock songs in a country style with cowboy hats and Stetsons. The venue at Freizeitbad Azur allows for an open-air format by the water and appeals to families with Heavysaurus and a broad rock-affine audience with The Boss Hoss.

Open Air at Freizeitbad Azur

The Freizeitbad Azur in Kaiserslautern, normally a swimming pool complex with an adventure character, will become an open-air concert stage on May 15th and 16th, 2026. The spacious outdoor area offers space for the stage, a dance floor, food stalls, a bar, and seating – an unusual venue that creates a special atmosphere with its waterfront setting. Two acts will perform on the two days: Heavysaurus for a family audience, The Boss Hoss for an adult rock-country audience.

Heavysaurus – Heavy Metal for Kids

Heavysaurus is a Finnish phenomenon with a German adaptation: a heavy metal band whose members perform in dinosaur costumes and whose songs are aimed at children. What initially sounds paradoxical works excellently in practice: the band delivers real heavy metal songs with distorted guitars, fast drumming patterns, and powerful choruses, but with lyrics that address children's themes – from dinosaurs and dinosaur freighters to school life and family life. Parents can share a concert experience with their children here that is fun for both sides.

The Boss Hoss – Country-Rock Covers

The Boss Hoss from Berlin has established itself as one of Germany's most successful live phenomena since the early 2000s. The concept: current pop and rock songs are reinterpreted in country-rock arrangements, with cowboy hats, Stetsons, a whiskey image, and a large band lineup with a brass section and backing vocals. What began as a humorous imitation has long since become an independent concert experience that draws thousands of visitors to sold-out venues. The open-air version at Freizeitbad Azur offers a special atmosphere.

Action by the Water

The location at Freizeitbad Azur lends both concerts a special touch. While other open-air venues in Kaiserslautern – Schillerplatz, Stiftsplatz, Gartenschau – have their own atmosphere, the Azur is characterized by the water, the swimming facilities during the day, and its open location. In May, the water might still be too cold for swimming, but the atmosphere of the pool contributes to the concert experience.
