Plants, arts and crafts, and lost bicycle auction in the historic market square
The Greifswald Garden Market takes place annually on a Sunday in early May in the historic market square. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the market offers primarily garden plants, perennials, fruit trees, and herbs from regional nurseries and garden centers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The selection caters to hobby gardeners as well as experienced plant lovers looking to refresh their balconies, backyards, or allotment gardens.
In addition to the rich plant selection, regional artisans present their work: handmade wrought iron objects, woven baskets, turned wood items, mosaics, and garden furniture made of wood and metal. Useful garden tools and seeds of old varieties are also available.
A Greifswald tradition is the public auction of around 50 unclaimed lost bicycles, which the market offers concurrently. After a preview, the auction begins at 12 p.m. — mostly adult bicycles are auctioned. Those with luck and a good eye can ride home with a solid bike at a low price.
Greifswald is part of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Hanseatic city, with its red brick Gothic architecture and proximity to the Baltic Sea, provides a charming backdrop for this spring event. The garden market is part of a regular series of markets curated by the city's market office throughout the year.
The 2026 spring edition of the Greifswald Garden Market will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in the Historic Market Square. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The focus is on garden plants, perennials, and fruit trees from regional nurseries, garden herbs, arts and crafts in metal, wood, and willow, as well as garden furniture. A public auction of around 50 lost bicycles complements the program.
Entry to the market is free. Auction prices depend on condition and bidder interest — cash recommended.
By train to Greifswald Hbf, then about a 10-minute walk to the market square. By car via the A20, exit Greifswald.
Entry to the market is free. For stand space inquiries: Register with the market office (Tel. +49 3834 8536 4380, [email protected]).
Morning for the widest selection of plants, shortly before 12 p.m. for the lost bicycle auction.
