Five venues, six weeks of literature — from readings to poetry slams
The Greifswald Literary Spring is the annual spring cooperation of Greifswald's most important literary and cultural venues: Koeppenhaus (Vorpommern Literature Centre), Falladahaus, Stadtbibliothek Hans Fallada, the STRAZE socio-cultural centre, and St. Spiritus meeting house. For six weeks — from the end of March to the end of April — the five venues combine their programs into a joint festival that brings together the literary diversity of the Hanseatic city under one roof.
The program includes readings by renowned and young authors, poetry slams, literary film screenings, musical-literary concerts, puppet theatre, workshops for adults and children, and exhibitions. The spectrum ranges from contemporary literature, poetry, and translation evenings to events featuring East German, Polish, and Scandinavian voices.
The Koeppenhaus, located in the birthplace of the writer Wolfgang Koeppen (1906–1996), houses the Wolfgang Koeppen Archive and is the literary heart of the festival. In partnership with institutions like the Pomeranian Literary Society, it preserves the region's literary heritage while also providing a stage for new voices.
Greifswald is part of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As a university city with a rich library tradition and an active independent scene, it offers an ideal resonance space for a multi-week literary festival.
The 2026 edition of the Greifswald Literary Spring spans approximately six weeks between late March and late April. As in previous years, five venues are participating: the Koeppenhaus as the Vorpommern Literature Centre, the Falladahaus, the Stadtbibliothek Hans Fallada, the STRAZE socio-cultural centre, and the St. Spiritus meeting house.
The program includes readings, poetry slams, literary film screenings, musical-literary concerts, puppet theatre, workshops, and exhibitions. The detailed program booklet will be published shortly before the festival begins in PDF and print format.
Admission prices vary depending on the event; typically between €5 and €15, with some program items free. Discounts available for students, trainees, and Greifswald Pass holders.
Greifswald main station is about a 10-minute walk from the Koeppenhaus and the city centre. All five festival venues are within walking distance.
Prices vary depending on the event and venue; many program items cost between €5 and €15, with some being free. Program booklets will be published as PDFs and in print before the festival begins.
For highly popular readings, advance booking with the respective organizer (Koeppenhaus, Falladahaus, Stadtbibliothek, STRAZE, or St. Spiritus) is recommended.
