The Summer Festival of the Waßmannsdorf District

Waßmannsdorf is one of the districts of the municipality of Schönefeld, located directly north of Berlin Brandenburg Airport in the Dahme-Spreewald district. With just under 700 inhabitants, Waßmannsdorf is a typical Berlin fringe village – and that's exactly what makes the annual Sommerfest special: a down-to-earth district festival that fosters community spirit, supported by local clubs and the municipal administration. The 2026 edition will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Football at its Heart

The heart of the festival is the football tournament between youth teams from the district and friendly clubs from the region. The matches start in the late morning and continue throughout the day – parents, grandparents, and neighbours come by the sidelines, watch the half-time breaks, and grab a bratwurst and beer from the food stalls. It's the mix that defines the format: organised sport plus an open village festival.

Entertainment Programme and Family Offer

Parallel to the sports programme, there's a classic entertainment programme to join in: bouncy castles, face painting, craft and game street for the little ones, small stages with performances by local clubs – carnival club, shooting club, youth fire brigade group. In the evening, a DJ or a small cover band takes over, and the festival concludes with dancing and a campfire atmosphere.

Schönefeld — the Municipality by the Airport

The municipality of Schönefeld has around 21,000 inhabitants and has become one of Brandenburg's most dynamic growth locations since the opening of Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) in 2020. Despite the proximity to the international transport hub, the individual districts – Schönefeld itself, Großziethen, Waltersdorf, Selchow, Waßmannsdorf, Kiekebusch – have largely retained their village character. The Waßmannsdorf Sommerfest is precisely this village character put to the test.
