Bavarian Oktoberfest in the Berlin commuter belt
The Schönefelder Oktoberfest is the traditional late summer Volksfest (public festival) of the Schönefeld municipality. It takes place annually at the end of September on the village green of the Alt-Schönefeld district – the historic village center of the municipality, which is now primarily known as the airport community of BER (Berlin Brandenburg „Willy Brandt"). In 2026, the festival will run on the weekend of September 18th and 19th.
Classic Oktoberfest Program
The Schönefelder Oktoberfest follows the proven Bavarian format:
- Festival tent on the village green with beer service.
- Live bands – brass bands, Schlager, and folk music acts.
- DJ for the later evening hours with Schlager hits and sing-along classics.
- Bavarian specialties: Weißwurst (white sausage), Brez'n (pretzel), Hendl (roast chicken), Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Obatzda (cheese spread).
- Freshly tapped beer – Maß (liter mug) and Halbe (half-liter mug) directly from the barrel.
- Traditional attire – Dirndl and Lederhosen explicitly welcome.
- Children's program with carousel and bouncy castle.
Opening Hours
- Friday, 09/18/2026: 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM (Beer tapping ceremony to kick off the festival).
- Saturday, 09/19/2026: 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM (Main program with double band performances).
Schönefeld – the BER community
The municipality of Schönefeld (around 15,000 inhabitants) is located in the Dahme-Spreewald district, south of Berlin directly on the city border. It is the location of Berlin Brandenburg „Willy Brandt" Airport (BER), which opened in 2020. Despite the major airport, the Alt-Schönefeld district has retained its village structure – with a historic village green, church, and half-timbered houses. The Hans-Grade-Allee (seat of the municipal administration) commemorates the German aviation pioneer Hans Grade (1879–1946).
Getting there and logistics
Schönefeld is optimally connected to Berlin via S-Bahn line S9 and regional train (Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg). From BER station, it's about a 5-minute walk to the Alt-Schönefeld village green. By car, take the A113 (Berliner Stadtring), exit Schönefeld-Nord.
