Advent Ritual in the Southern Commuter Belt

When the lights at Mahlow Station Forecourt are lit on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, the busy phase of the Advent season begins for the residents of the municipality of Blankenfelde-Mahlow. The annual Christmas market at the station forecourt has been a firm fixture in the municipal calendar for many years — and one of the most charming small Advent markets in the southern Berlin commuter belt. Station Forecourt and Station Roundabout

The market extends over the Station Forecourt and the Station Roundabout — directly at the Mahlow S-Bahn station, which connects the municipality with Berlin and BER Airport. This location is a great advantage: anyone arriving from Berlin can reach it in half an hour via the S2 S-Bahn line and visit the market conveniently after work. The typical elements of a Brandenburg Advent market characterize the scene: craft stalls with handmade items and gift ideas, small stage performances by regional choirs or schools, mulled wine and punch, bratwurst and sweets — and above all, the festive lighting, which lends the station square a special atmosphere on this evening.

Family Advent in Dahlewitz as a Complement

Anyone visiting the municipality of Blankenfelde-Mahlow during Advent should also keep another date in mind: the Family Advent at Dahlewitz Village Church, which traditionally takes place on the 1st Saturday of Advent — presumably November 28, 2026. Both events are smaller, community-focused Advent markets that are less tourist-oriented than the large Berlin markets — and precisely because of this, they have their own special atmosphere.

Blankenfelde-Mahlow and Teltow-Fläming

With around 28,000 inhabitants, Blankenfelde-Mahlow is one of the larger municipalities in the Teltow-Fläming district and is located directly south of Berlin — bordering the Lichtenrade district and about 10 km from the Berlin city center. Its location on the Berliner Ring (A10) and at BER Airport makes the municipality attractive in terms of transport; the small districts of Blankenfelde, Mahlow, Dahlewitz, Glasow, and Jühnsdorf nevertheless retain their rural character. The Christmas market at the station forecourt is part of this dual identity — modernly connected, traditionally celebrated.
