Christmas market around the Quirinus Minster from November 23 to December 23, 2026
The Quirinus Christmas Market – also known as the Neuss Christmas Market or simply Adventsmarkt Neuss – is the heart of the city in the pre-Christmas season. The venue is the entire city center around the late Romanesque Quirinus Minster (12th/13th century), which stands bathed in golden light amidst the stalls. A particularly atmospheric setting that has established Neuss as a pre-Christmas excursion destination since the 1980s.
The 2026 edition starts on Sunday, November 23, 2026 (Christmas market begins before the 1st Sunday of Advent) and runs until Wednesday, December 23, 2026. The city follows the usual Lower Rhine rhythm: opening on the weekend before the 1st Sunday of Advent, continuous opening until just before Christmas Eve.
The market area extends over three sections:
A total of around 80 stalls and stands offer the classic Christmas market program: mulled wine (also non-alcoholic), potato pancakes, candied almonds, bratwurst, gingerbread, crêpes, and chestnuts for food and drink. On the arts and crafts side: wooden figures, Christmas tree baubles, handmade Advent wreaths, nativity scenes, knitted items, pottery, jewelry.
The 1st Sunday of Advent (November 29, 2026) is the big highlight: special program with a main stage, joint Advent sing-along at 4 p.m. (song sheets will be distributed), face painting for children, and Sunday shopping in the city center from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. A particularly crowded but atmospheric city center – families from the entire Rhein-Kreis Neuss come to Neuss on the 1st Sunday of Advent.
There is a family program throughout the Advent season: a carousel for the little ones at Münsterplatz, occasional performances by children's choirs, storytelling sessions in the town hall foyer. St. Nicholas himself will visit the market on December 6, 2026 (St. Nicholas Day).
Anyone needing a quiet break from the market bustle can visit the Quirinus Minster – open during the day, often with special lighting during Advent. The late Romanesque architecture with its characteristic double towers and choir apse is worth a look.
Compared to the large markets in Düsseldorf, Cologne, or Aachen, the Neuss Christmas market is smaller but more atmospheric. The Minster backdrop makes it special – no other Christmas market on the Lower Rhine has such a comparably mighty sacred building in the background. In the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, the Quirinus Christmas Market is the most important of its kind.
As every year, the city center around the Quirinus Minster transforms into an extensive Christmas market. The exact opening hours for 2026 will be published soon by Neuss Marketing – the date November 23 follows the usual Lower Rhine Christmas market rhythm.
