Traditional fair in the Aggertal valley — parade, wheelbarrow race, and dancing under the sun sail at the end of August 2026
The Wahlscheider Kirmes is one of the most important folk festivals (Volksfeste) in the Lohmar municipal area. It takes place annually on the last weekend of August — from Saturday, August 29th to Monday, August 31st, 2026. The venue is the Forumsplatz / Forecourt Wahlscheid Forum at Wahlscheider Straße 56 in the Wahlscheid district of Lohmar, picturesquely nestled in the Aggertal valley north of Siegburg in the Rhein-Sieg district.
In the Rhineland, a Kirmes is more than just a funfair: it's village community life. The local Wahlscheid associations — marksmen, carnival societies, sports clubs, fire brigade, music associations — join forces to organize a weekend that brings all generations together. Free admission, everyone welcome.
A Rhenish tradition: Teams compete in a quirky race on Schörreskarren (wheelbarrows), requiring speed, skill, and a dash of humor. The discipline originates from agriculture in the Bergisches Land region — today it's a pure fun event and a crowd-puller.
The grand parade ('Korso') on Sunday is the visual highlight: decorated floats, walking groups, and music bands march through Wahlscheid. Each year, new themes are created, often with great attention to detail and a wink.
On the forum square, the organizers stretch a large sun sail — underneath, people dance to live music, celebrate, and enjoy the warm late summer weather.
Over the weekend, the village center transforms into a large flea market with hundreds of stalls — antiques, bric-a-brac, children's items, regional specialties.
Wahlscheid is located north of Siegburg in the Bergisches Land region, nestled in the scenic Aggertal valley. The district belongs to the town of Lohmar in the Rhein-Sieg district. The Aggertalsperre (Aggertal dam) and the surrounding forests make the region a popular local recreation area — and the Kirmes an annual meeting point for the village community.
The Wahlscheider Kirmes is the annual traditional fair in the Aggertal valley, organized by the local Wahlscheid associations. Highlights in 2026: the folkloric Schörreskarren race event, the grand parade on Sunday with decorated floats and walking groups, dancing and live music under the sun sail on the forum square, a flea market, and a traditional tombola.
