Anniversary edition of the Schwafheim Volkslauf with half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, and walking in the Lower Rhine region
Schwafheim is a southern district of Moers, a city of 105,000 inhabitants on the left bank of the Lower Rhine, west of the Rhine between Duisburg and Krefeld. With around 5,500 inhabitants, Schwafheim is manageable but sporty — the TV Schwafheim 1900 e.V. sports club, founded in 1900, is a central pillar of club life with its handball, gymnastics, tennis, and athletics departments. Its Volkslauf, held since 1977, is a fixture on the Lower Rhine running calendar.
The 50th edition in 2026 is an anniversary: half a century of uninterrupted running culture in a district with 5,500 inhabitants. The Volkslauf may not be the largest in the region (the Düsseldorf Marathon attracts more runners), but it is one of the oldest and most loyal events — regular runners have been returning for 30 years, often across generations.
The range of distances covers all needs:
A maximum of 650 participants in total — which keeps the Volkslauf in the manageable category, but makes it personal and family-friendly precisely because of this.
The routes run through Schwafheim and the surrounding Lower Rhine landscapes — flat, park-like, with a manageable number of turns. Ideal for personal best times. Start and finish: Sports grounds at the clubhouse, Dorfstraße 3. Aid stations along the route every 5 km.
Online registration opens on February 1, 2026, via the RaceResult platform. On race day (June 4, 2026), late registration is also possible at the clubhouse from 8 a.m., no later than 30 minutes before the respective start. Bib distribution also on-site.
In addition to athletics, TV Schwafheim 1900 e.V. also offers handball (known for its women's teams), gymnastics, and tennis. The Volkslauf is organized on a voluntary basis — club members take on roles as course marshals, aid station staff, timekeepers, and caterers. A true club effort that shapes the event.
Those arriving from further afield can combine their running weekend with a visit to Moers: the Schlosspark (Castle Park) with its historic town center, the Bismarck Tower, the Moers Festival (on the Pentecost weekend, the major international jazz festival), and the Rheinaue Peninsula. Moers is a 30-minute train ride from Duisburg, Krefeld, and Düsseldorf.
Half a century of Lower Rhine running culture — TV Schwafheim 1900 celebrates its 50th Volkslauf anniversary with the established range of distances from 500 m to the half marathon. Flat Lower Rhine course, personal atmosphere, volunteer course marshals.
