Upper Palatinate Volksfest with Festival Tent and Regental Expo
The Volksfest Nittenau is one of the pillars of the Upper Palatinate festival calendar. It takes place annually on the Volksfestplatz on the Regen river in the town of Nittenau (Schwandorf district, Bavaria). Located directly on the Regen river, the festival grounds combine a festival tent, beer garden, and a versatile open-air area. The town of Nittenau is the organizer, and the festival hosts are Brauhaus Nittenau and Festküche Haberzeth.
The festival tent program offers Bavarian folk festival atmosphere: live music, folk dance, dance evenings with bands like Kasplattnrocker and Woidler Power, plus a children's program and the traditional senior citizens' afternoon with the senior citizens' council. The festive opening on Friday includes a concert, a parade, and the Mayor's beer tapping. The Volksfest is accompanied by the Regental Expo, a regional trade exhibition on Volksfest Sunday in the adjacent Regentalhalle (Jahnweg 20).
Nittenau is a small town in the southern district of Schwandorf, picturesquely located in the Regental valley – one of the most beautiful river valleys in the central Upper Palatinate. The town lies between Regensburg and the Bavarian Forest, with the Regen river as its defining natural landscape. With its Volksfest, Regental Expo, and civic festival, Nittenau is among the most festive small towns in the region; the Volksfest is the traditional summer highlight.
The Volksfest Nittenau 2026 begins on Friday, June 12th, with a concert, parade, and the traditional beer tapping by Mayor Benjamin Boml. Afterward, the band Kasplattnrocker takes over the festival tent. On Saturday, the children's program and dance performances are scheduled for the afternoon, complemented by the senior citizens' afternoon organized by the senior citizens' council; in the evening, Woidler Power plays in the festival tent.
Sunday, June 14th, is Family Day with the Regental Expo 2026 in the Regentalhalle – regional companies, institutions, and organizations present the economic strength of the Regental valley. Additionally, the festival tent will show public viewing of the Football World Cup (Germany vs. Curaçao). The event concludes on Monday, June 15th, with "Volksfest light" with reduced opening hours from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
