Celebrating at the Hammersee
The Hammersee in Bodenwöhr is a historic reservoir in the Upper Palatinate, once created to supply energy to the iron hammers of the Bodenwöhr ironworks. Today, it is a popular local recreation area in the Oberpfälzer Seenland, a water-rich region in the Schwandorf district. Once a year, the municipality of Bodenwöhr transforms the lake shore into a large festival ground for the Hammerseefest.
Clubs serve, families come
From the late afternoon (official start 4 PM), the area along the lake buzzes with activity. Local clubs – fire brigades, sports clubs, traditional costume and music associations – set up stalls with food and drinks. The food ranges from classic Upper Palatinate snacks to grilled fish on a stick and bratwurst, all accompanied by regional beer.
Pyrotechnics over the water
The highlight of the Hammerseefest is the grand fireworks display over the Hammersee. As soon as it gets dark, the rockets ascend over the water – a popular sight that draws thousands to the shore every year.
