The traditional Volksfest of SV Lauterhofen at Kalvarienberg
The Volksfest Lauterhofen is one of the most popular summer festivals in the district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate and has been organised by SV Lauterhofen for many years. The market town of Lauterhofen lies in the valley of the Schwarze Laber, nestled between the uplands of the Middle Upper Palatinate, and fills with visitors from the surrounding communities on this June weekend.
The start has always belonged to the open-air concert in the historic market square: The Werkvolkkapelle Neumarkt plays, the festival host serves free beer, and then the festival procession moves up to the festival tent at the sports grounds, where the patron – Mayor Xaver Lang – performs the beer tapping ceremony. This officially opens the festival.
Throughout the weekend, the club's youth football tournaments run on the sports field, from G- to D-juniors. In the tent, brass and dance bands provide the atmosphere; on Saturday there is a senior afternoon with coffee and cake, on Sunday a morning pint with a church service and line dancing. The traditional grand raffle marks the finale.
In 2026, the festival will take place on the outskirts for the first time – idyllically located below Kalvarienberg on the SV Lauterhofen club grounds. The move creates more space for the tent, stage, and festival operations without losing the village character of the festival.
The 47th Volksfest Lauterhofen is hosted by SV Lauterhofen and will take place for the first time in 2026 on the outskirts at the Sportgelände Zum Kalvarienberg. Over three days, visitors can expect a mix of brass band music, dance bands, youth football tournaments, and convivial festival tent atmosphere. Highlights include the open-air concert with free beer in the historic market square, the festival procession to the tent, and the beer tapping ceremony by patron and Mayor Xaver Lang.
Lauterhofen is located in the district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate, easily accessible via the A6 (Neumarkt exit) and the A3. Approximately 20 minutes by car from Neumarkt. The festival grounds are located at Sportgelände Zum Kalvarienberg 6 on the outskirts.
Admission to the Volksfest is free. Food and drinks can be purchased on site.
The open-air concert with free beer on Friday evening in the market square marks the atmospheric start – arriving early is worthwhile.
