Island's Biggest Open-Air Event

The New Year's Eve Open-Air Party in Westerland is the biggest New Year's Eve event on Sylt island — and one of the most famous New Year's Eve parties on the entire German North Sea coast. The organizers are Insel Sylt Tourismus-Service GmbH in cooperation with the North German radio station R.SH. The venue: the Musikmuschel on Westerland's promenade, right on the beach.

From 10 PM, the Musikmuschel becomes a party zone. DJ Harry Kohrt creates the atmosphere with a mix of current charts, house, and dance classics. In the background: the crashing North Sea. The organizers themselves describe the atmosphere as «with cool music and the surf of the North Sea» — a New Year's Eve of a special kind.

Sylt is Firework-Free

Important to know: Fireworks and firecrackers are banned island-wide on Sylt — due to the fire risk to the thatched houses and the special wind conditions. «Instead of firecrackers, corks pop here», says the tourism service: dancing takes place on the promenade and the beach, and fireworks are organized professionally only in the nearby Hörnum harbor.

Also on Brandenburger Strand and in the Clubs

Besides the Musikmuschel, the Brandenburger Strand also transforms into a hotspot for New Year's Eve. For those who prefer to be indoors: Westerland's Paulstraße and Kampen offer numerous clubs and bars where the party continues into the early morning hours.

Free Bus Shuttle Across the Island

The Sylter Verkehrsgesellschaft runs a free service across the entire island on New Year's Eve from 6 PM to 4 AM — from Hörnum in the south to List in the north. An important service that makes safe travel between hotels and the promenade possible.
