Folk Festival in Lower Bavaria
The Volksfest Gangkofen is the most important summer festival event in the Lower Bavarian market town of Gangkofen in the Rottal-Inn district. For six days, the festival grounds on Eggenfeldener Straße and Jahnstraße are transformed into a classic Lower Bavarian festival setting with a beer tent, amusement park, and market stalls. In 2026, the festival runs from July 2nd to 7th — from Thursday evening to the following Tuesday.
Festival Parade and Beer Tapping
The festival begins with the traditional parade from the town hall through the decorated market square down to the festival grounds. The procession is accompanied by the music band BinaBlech, as well as traditional costume groups, clubs, and marksmen from the entire market area. At the festival grounds, the mayor performs the traditional beer tapping — the official starting signal for the six-day festival.
Beer Tent, Amusement Park, and Market
The festival tent offers Lower Bavarian beer (Gangkofen is traditionally within the catchment area of East Bavarian breweries) and a varied music program — folk music, Schlager, rock covers, and 'Mallorca-Stimmung' in different mixes over the festival days. The amusement park offers rides and stalls for families — chain carousel, bumper cars, shooting gallery, candy stalls. The family day (often Sunday or Monday) features discounted prices on rides.
Parade and Closing Fireworks
The highlight of the festival week is the grand parade on Sunday with floats from Gangkofen's districts, traditional costume groups from the Rottal-Inn region, and music bands. On the last festival evening (Tuesday), the closing fireworks display concludes the Volksfest week.

Getting There
Gangkofen is located near the B388 (Landshut–Pfarrkirchen). By car, take the A92 (exit Dingolfing-Ost) and continue via Landau/Eichendorf. Park & Ride at the festival grounds.
Admission
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Beer tent reservations can be made through the festival host (reservation phone number will be provided by the organizer closer to the date). Rides are charged at showman prices.
