Large autumnal town festival and craft market with Sunday shopping in the castle town of Montabaur
The Schustermarkt Montabaur is one of the most important town festivals in the castle town in autumn. It combines traditional market character with contemporary festival culture and Sunday shopping. For two days, the town centre is transformed into a lively market and festival zone.
In 2026, the Schustermarkt will take place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September. It will feature arts and crafts, gastronomy, live entertainment, and a diverse range of regional and supra-regional exhibitors. The Sunday shopping complements the market offerings with the open shops in Montabaur's town centre.
The name "Schustermarkt" (Cobbler's Market) goes back to the centuries-old tradition of craft markets that were held on fixed dates throughout the year in many Rhineland-Palatinate towns. While shoemakers and leather craftsmen were actually the focus in the past, the market has now developed into a broadly based arts and crafts and gastronomy market – the traditional name has remained.
The central character of the market lies in the combination of arts and crafts and gastronomy. Exhibitors present handmade products in the squares and alleys of the town centre – from ceramics, jewellery, textiles, woodwork, and leather goods to specialised craft products. In parallel, food stalls, snack vans, and local gastronomy ensure a diverse culinary supply.
Sunday is organised as a day for Sunday shopping. This rare opportunity to shop in the entire town centre on a Sunday makes the Schustermarkt an additionally attractive day-trip destination. The shops in Montabaur's town centre use the day to present their autumn collections and offer special deals.
A diverse entertainment programme rounds off the market weekend. Music acts on small open-air stages, walking acts, children's activities, and hands-on stations create a lively festival atmosphere. Families with children will find their own programme, while adults can explore the market.
The district town of Montabaur, with its distinctive yellow-and-white castle on the Schlossberg, its historic town centre, and its baroque squares, offers a particularly beautiful festival backdrop. Those who combine the Schustermarkt with a city walk will get to know one of the most attractive small towns in the Westerwald.

The market is organised by the town of Montabaur in cooperation with Spack! Event.
