Gravel bike tour through the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park along the Hunte river
Gravel biking is a cycling sport that has developed rapidly in recent years. It combines the speed of a road bike with the off-road capability of a mountain bike and is particularly suitable for mixed routes of asphalt, gravel, forest paths, and field tracks. The Wildeshauser Geest, with its extensive forests, heathlands, geest ridges, and Hunte river meadows, offers an almost ideal terrain for this sport.
The Autumn Edition covers approximately 52 kilometers along the Hunte river and through typical geest landscapes. The route mainly runs on paved gravel paths, farm tracks, and quiet side roads, designed to showcase the scenic diversity of the nature park. Characteristic features include old farmsteads, ancient oaks, glacial erratic boulders, and megalithic tombs that shape the image of the Wildeshauser Geest.
The event is deliberately not a competition but a joint ride with a sporting ambition. Participants ride at their own pace, with the focus on experiencing nature, technical enjoyment, and interaction within the gravel community. With around 240 participants in past editions, Wilde Geest Gravel is one of the largest gravel events in the region.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizers in the summer. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years: joint start in Wildeshausen, route of approximately 52 kilometers along the Hunte, refreshment stop halfway, and a joint conclusion in the finish area with refreshments and socializing.
The specific start time, logistics, and route details will be communicated to registered participants before the event day.
Updates will be communicated on @wilde.geest (Instagram) and via email.
