74th edition of the free local festival with barrel tapping, live music, and new cocktail bar "Alte Kelter"
The Volks- und Heimatfest Muggensturm is one of those folk festivals that shows what local pride means in southern Baden: clubs organize, the municipality provides the framework, and all visitors get in for free. From Friday, July 10th to Monday, July 13th, 2026, thousands will flock to the Muggensturm festival grounds, a village in the Rastatt district between Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden. The 74th edition builds on a tradition dating back to the early 1950s.
For the 2026 festival year, the grounds are expanded with a modern component: The mobile bar with cocktails opens for the first time in the historic "Alte Kelter" — a meeting point for a younger audience who appreciate beer but also want an Aperol Spritz in between. Franz brewery from Rastatt, as every year, supplies the festival beer; the Monday brunch with ox-mouth salad is a must for the older members of the community.
The musical program spans all generations: brass music from music clubs, an afternoon for seniors with Heidi & Rudi, concerts by the 12er Chor, local cover band 2 Cool, and Schlager icon Dieter Jürgens (Festival der Liebe). Monday evening belongs to SONRISE and the band "Music Men"; in between, DJ Nik-O and DJ Eric will spin records in the Alte Kelter. A mix that appeals equally to families, youth, and older generations.
On Sunday at 9 a.m., the ecumenical service takes place on the festival grounds — organized by the Protestant Trinity Parish of Bietigheim-Muggensturm-Ötigheim and the Catholic parish. This is followed by a brunch with the Muggensturm Music Club and club performances in the afternoon. Family Day on Monday offers reduced prices on carousels and rides from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. — a gesture to the families who have supported the festival for generations.
The 74th Volks- und Heimatfest Muggensturm will take place from Friday, July 10th to Monday, July 13th, 2026, on the Muggensturm festival grounds. Opening on Friday evening with a parade of clubs and 100 liters of free beer to welcome guests, followed by live concerts. Saturday's focus is on Schlager star guest Dieter Jürgens, Sunday features the ecumenical service and club performances, and Monday offers the traditional ox-mouth salad brunch and Family Day.
