Running and Discovering the City

The Urban-Run is a new generation of city run – the format combines athletic ambition with the relaxed character of an urban experience run. Instead of monotonous circuits, the approximately 10-kilometre route passes by prominent points in the city. In Recklinghausen, these include the Ruhrfestspielhaus as the start and finish, the Kunsthalle with its renowned collection of modern art, the historic City Hall, and other city centre highlights.

Start at the Ruhrfestspielhaus

The Ruhrfestspielhaus on Otto-Burrmeister-Allee 1 is the starting line – and a perfect starting point. As the home of the Ruhrfestspiele (one of the oldest festivals of its kind worldwide), the venue embodies the city's cultural identity. From there, the route leads through various city districts until it ends back at the Ruhrfestspielhaus. Starting waves ensure a smooth running experience without congestion at the start.

Recklinghausen in the Vest

Recklinghausen, with around 113,000 inhabitants, is the district town of the Recklinghausen district and is located on the northern edge of the Ruhr area in North Rhine-Westphalia. Known primarily for the Ruhrfestspiele, the Kunsthalle, and the historic old town centre, the city is ideal for a run that not only measures kilometres but also tells stories. Several Urban-Runs are organised in the Ruhr area in the 2026 season – Recklinghausen is one of the dates.
