Public Viewing Since the 2006 Summer Fairy Tale
Since the 2006 Summer Fairy Tale, Recklinghausen's Rathausplatz has been the city's central public viewing stage as the „KIA Arena“. The organizer is Arena Recklinghausen GmbH in cooperation with the City of Recklinghausen. For the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, the arena will open again – with a large screen, grandstands, and a two-story VIP tent.
Dates 2026 – June 11 to July 19
The public viewing runs parallel to the entire 2026 FIFA World Cup: from June 11 (opening match in Mexico City) to July 19, 2026 (final). Due to the time difference between North America and Central Europe, many matches in Recklinghausen will only start in the late afternoon or evening. The city announces that almost all matches will be broadcast live until 10 PM – late games in European night time not everywhere.
KIA Arena – Format and Capacity
The KIA Arena offers space for up to 7,500 visitors on the Rathausplatz in the city center. Large LED screen, several food and drink stands, security-controlled access like at stadium events (bag checks, no outside drinks). Above the grandstand rises a two-story VIP tent with its own catering (bratwurst, beer, cocktails, soft drinks, crêpes), separate entrance, and lounge area.
Tickets and Prices
- Germany Tickets: from €2 per match (standing room, generally accessible). Sold separately due to increased security measures.
- VIP Day Tickets: from €39 (incl. catering in the 2-story tent, separate entrance).
- VIP World Cup Pass: from €349 (full tournament access, all matches).
- Non-Germany Matches: Admission generally free.

Throughout the tournament, the KIA Arena stage will feature artists – live bands before the match, DJ sets after the games, children's programs on days with fewer matches. Local bands from the Ruhr area, cover and tribute acts, occasionally national acts.
