Premiere of the gourmet festival — Whisky, spirits, and craft beer in the Völklingen Kulturhalle
With Genuss.Saarland, a new chapter opens in the Saarland festival calendar in 2026: a gourmet festival focusing on high-quality spirits, craft beer, and fine artisanal products — filling a gap in the region's event offerings. While wine and beer festivals are abundant in Saarland, there has been no dedicated format for the growing world of artisanal distillates and small craft breweries. Genuss.Saarland aims to fill this void in 2026.
The program aims for a diverse tasting palette: Whisky from European and international distilleries, regional and supra-regional Gin manufacturers, Rum reserves, classic spirits like Cognac and Armagnac, and a curated selection of Craft Beer from Saarland and the greater region (Lorraine, Luxembourg, Belgium). Exhibitors will present their products directly, allowing visitors to taste, ask questions, and ideally learn the stories behind the producers.
The venue is the Kulturhalle Völklingen — the central multi-purpose hall of the city in the Saarbrücken regional association. The hall offers ample space for several exhibitor islands, a central catering area, and seating for relaxed tasting sessions. The format for the inaugural edition will be compact — an evening event from 5 PM until late — with the possibility of expansion in subsequent years depending on attendance.
Unlike a classic beer or wine festival, Genuss.Saarland is consciously aimed at the premium tasting guest: subdued background music, opportunities for conversation with distillers and brewers, tasting sets in small glasses (no mass pouring). Classical and jazz background music will accompany the program — an atmosphere more akin to a whisky fair than a Volksfest (traditional folk festival).
For several years, Völklingen has been positioning itself as a cultural hub — primarily driven by the UNESCO World Heritage site Völklinger Hütte. With Genuss.Saarland, the city is now adding a culinary component to its event spectrum. Visitors to the festival can easily combine their stay in Völklingen with a visit to the Hütte the following day — both locations are within walking distance.
The 2026 inaugural edition consciously positions itself as a premium tasting event with an artisanal character. Exhibitors from Saarland, Lorraine, Luxembourg, and Belgium will present their products. The city of Völklingen is coordinating the selection of exhibitors and catering.
