Festival of Good Cheer on the Main

Since its premiere, the Volkacher Kabarett Sommer has developed into one of the most important summer cabaret festivals in Franconia. Every summer evening for ten days, the Volkach Wine Festival Grounds – an extensive park under old plane trees directly on the Main river – transforms into a first-class open-air stage. The town of Volkach organizes the festival in collaboration with the renowned Comödie Fürth by Volker Heißmann and Martin Rassau.

Concept: Ten Evenings, Ten Programs

Each evening is a separate event with its own artist or program. The series brings together the top names of the Franconian and Bavarian cabaret scene with musical acts and crossover formats. Highlights regularly include the TV recordings of the BR-Brettlspitzen (Bavarian Broadcasting) and the »Kochmödianten« evenings, where star chef Alexander Herrmann combines culinary art and comedy with comedian Martin Rassau (alias Erna Wanninger).

Atmosphere Under Plane Trees

The Volkach Wine Festival Grounds offer a special atmosphere: the audience sits in the large park under old trees, Franconian wine and sparkling wine from the Mainschleife vineyards flow, and the mild summer air of Lower Franconia hovers above it all. The venue is not covered – the evenings take place in all weather conditions, only cancelled or postponed in case of a storm warning.

Volkach – Gateway to the Mainschleife

Volkach is a Franconian wine-growing town with about 8,800 inhabitants in the Kitzingen district in Lower Franconia (State of Bavaria). The town is located in the heart of the Volkach Mainschleife, one of Germany's most important wine-growing regions, and is famous for its Silvaner wines, the late Gothic town hall, and the pilgrimage church of Maria im Weingarten by Tilman Riemenschneider. In summer, Volkach is a mecca for wine lovers, cyclists, and cultural travelers.

The Stars in the Park

Over the years, all the important names in the Bavarian cabaret scene have performed in Volkach: Heißmann & Rassau, Willy Astor, Erwin Pelzig, Django Asül, Klaus Karl-Kraus, Daphne de Luxe, Häisd'n'Däisd, and the comedy classic Caveman. The mix of established stage greats and new discoveries, from pure spoken word programs to musical-comedic crossover formats, is what makes the festival so appealing.
