Pößneck — Town at the Transition from the Saale Valley to the Schiefergebirge

Pößneck, with around 12,000 inhabitants, is a medium-sized town in the Saale-Orla district in eastern Thuringia, at the transition from the Saale valley to the Thuringian Schiefergebirge. The town is known for its printing and publishing industry (Pößneck was a center of German book production from the 19th century onwards) and for its historic old town with a market square and Gothic town church. The Shedhalle at Carl-Gustav-Vogel-Straße 3 is an architectural gem: a former industrial hall from the era of Pößneck's printing boom, with characteristic sawtooth roofs (serrated rows of roofs with north light) that characterized the industrial building. Today, the hall has been repurposed and hosts various events — the Herbst-Landmarkt is one of the highlights of the annual calendar. The area around the hall is used for market stalls in November, while the hall itself offers shelter in bad weather.
