Viva Hombruch — The Neighborhood Festival

The Viva Hombruch Street Festival is one of Dortmund's most traditional district festivals. On September 6, 2026, the Dortmund-Hombruch Marketplace and the adjacent streets will transform into a festival mile — with Sunday shopping, live music, entertainment, and a cozy neighborhood atmosphere. The organizer is the Hombruch Business Association, which strengthens the district's business life with the festival.

Program — Family District Festival in Late Summer

The festival typically runs from morning to evening, with a focus on the Sunday shopping from 1 PM to 6 PM:

• Live Music on the central stage — cover bands, singer-songwriters, regional acts
• Children's Entertainment — craft stations, face painting, mini carousels
• Gastronomy from Hombruch's restaurants and cafés with outdoor seating
• Sunday Shopping — Hombruch's shops open their doors
• Market Stalls from the Business Association with promotions and special offers

Hombruch — The Late Summer District

The district of Hombruch in southwestern Dortmund (North Rhine-Westphalia) has a strong local identity with around 33,000 inhabitants. With its own subway connection, an active business association, lively gastronomy, and the Hombruch Unplugged festival in May, among other things, the district is one of Dortmund's most festive. The Viva Hombruch in September is the late summer event — Hombruch Unplugged in May brings music, Viva in September brings neighborhood spirit and business revitalization.

District Festivals as a Key Format

Dortmund's polycentricity is reflected in many active district festivals. The Viva Hombruch, the Hörder Frühling, the Michaelisfest Mengede, the Bartholomäuskirmes Lütgendortmund, and similar formats make the independence of Dortmund's districts visible. The concept is not arbitrary: it's about identity maintenance and strengthening the local business infrastructure.

Sunday Shopping Linked to the Festival

The Sunday shopping is part of the concept: During the festival atmosphere, Hombruch's shops are allowed to remain open exceptionally. In NRW, this requires a special permit and connection with a public event — which Viva Hombruch fulfills. This gives the festival a double benefit: district atmosphere and business revitalization.
