Four days of celebration in Hombruch
When Harkortstraße turns into a festival mile at the end of August, it means one thing: Hombruch is celebrating! From August 27 to 30, 2026, the Hombruch Street Festival invites visitors to enjoy four days filled with music, good vibes, and community spirit. Things kick off on Thursday at 5 p.m. with the official opening on the marketplace. District Mayor Volker Schultebraucks will perform the traditional keg tapping, while Dortmund-based schlager singer Isselcopter sets the mood as the event moderator.
The stage will host a variety of entertainment, including live music and show acts. A special highlight will be the performance by Helene Fischer tribute artist JENNY. Numerous interactive activities and attractions make the street festival an experience for the whole family, while various food and drink stalls invite you to linger.
Sunday promises even more excitement: in addition to the street festival, there will be Sunday shopping, the Day of Clubs, and the international cycling race hosted by RSV Sturm Hombruch. "With the Hombruch Street Festival, we want to bring people together and showcase how vibrant our district is," says organizer Mathias Schlüter. Admission is free on all four days.
The name: Hombruch Street Festival
The event is called the Hombruch Street Festival. "Viva Hombruch" was the motto under which it ran for several years—the 40th and 41st editions were held under that title, and the 43rd under "Fiesta de la dolce Vita." The organizer has returned to using the name Hombruch Street Festival.
Hombruch in the south of Dortmund
The Hombruch district in the southwest of Dortmund (North Rhine-Westphalia) has a distinct local identity: its own municipal district, its own shopping street, and its own festivals. The event is supported by the local retailers and restaurateurs.
Sunday shopping in conjunction with the festival
Sunday shopping is part of the concept: in North Rhine-Westphalia, Sunday retail hours require a specific occasion—a public event to which they are linked. The street festival serves as this occasion. Participation is voluntary for retailers, so not all shops will be open.
District festivals in Dortmund
Dortmund's polycentric nature is reflected in its many district festivals: the Hombruch Street Festival, the Michaelisfest in Mengede, the Apple Market in Aplerbeck, and the Bartholomäus Fair in Lütgendortmund. They all highlight the independence of Dortmund's districts and revitalize local business.
